In September 1990, the "Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Entrepreneurship Workers" was founded, and in March 1991, the "Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Science, Scientific-Production and Private Enterprises Workers" was founded.Later, the two trade unions, which operated separately, merged in April 1997, upon the recommendation of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation and became a single organization.
At an extraordinary conference held on November 26, 1997, the Charter was approved in a new edition and was registered again with the Ministry of Justice. The organization began operating under the name "Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Employees of Entrepreneurship and Science, Scientific and Production Enterprises".
In 2016, the Light Industry Workers' Trade Union merged with this organization.
The sectoral trade union conducts its activities on the basis of the current legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Trade Unions", decisions and recommendations of the AHIK, as well as its own Charter.
The sectoral trade union organization is an independent non-political public organization that voluntarily unites employees of financial and economic activities of entrepreneurial and scientific, scientific-production, small, joint, rental and innovation enterprises, companies, associations, corporations, joint-stock companies, councils, unions, private higher and secondary schools, as well as all persons engaged in entrepreneurial activities without creating a legal entity.
According to the charter, the supreme body of the first organizations is a meeting (conference), a conference at the regional and national levels. The committee unites 625 trade union organizations, including 4 united trade unions, 52 city and district committees and has 27,776 members.
