Established on October 27, 1992, the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan unites 50 first organizations and 10,144 members. Since 1998, the Union of Free Trade Unions of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has been a member of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan.

The Congress of the Free Trade Union of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan is held every 5 years. The time of the congress is determined by the Assembly. The last congress was held on November 17, 2017.

Between congresses, the highest body is the Majlis. The meeting is held 2 times a year. The meeting of the Presidium of the Union is held 1 once a month.

In 2020-2022, a collective agreement was concluded between the Free Trade Union of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan and the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences, collective agreements with employers with the first trade union organizations.
