The trade union organization in the Baku metro was established in 1967 and was included in the membership of the Republican Committee of the Azerbaijan Railways Independent Trade Union. On May 8, 2003, the Metropolitan Workers' Trade Union was established and became a member of the AHIK. On September 14, 2014, the Metropolitan Workers' Trade Union and the United Trade Union Committee of the employees of "Azertunelmetrotikinti" JSC merged to establish the Metropolitan Workers' Trade Union. It unites the employees of the metro.
The union includes 24 primary trade union organizations and has 4,805 members.
The supreme body of the organization is the conference. The last conference was held in 2021. In the inter-conference period, the work of the organization is managed by the Assembly, which convenes at least once a year. An Executive Committee is elected to resolve current issues. The meeting of the EC is held at least once every 2 months.
