The Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of Azerbaijan was established in 1905. It is one of the largest trade union associations of workers in the republic. The Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers unites 73 territorial councils, 1 joint committee and 386 primary trade union organizations.
The trade union has 137,308 members, of which 12,101 are students and 109,336 are women. The supreme body of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers is the Congress, which is convened every 5 years. The First Congress of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers was held in 2005. In the inter-congress period, the work of the trade union is managed by the Assembly. The Assembly is convened once a year. The Presidium of the Republican Committee is elected from among the members of the Assembly to provide operational guidance on the activities of the Trade Union Committee.
The sectoral trade union bases its activities on the current legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Trade Unions”, decisions and recommendations of the AHIK, as well as its own Charter.
Standing commissions on labor and socio-economic issues, gender equality and women's issues, labor protection, social insurance issues, and the Youth Council operate in the Republican Committee.
The Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of Azerbaijan
has the right to conduct collective negotiations for the preparation, conclusion and amendment of collective contracts and agreements.
A Sectoral (Tariff) Collective Agreement for 2022-2024 has been concluded between the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of Azerbaijan for 2022-2024.
A Sectoral (Tariff) Collective Agreement for 2023-2025 has been concluded between the Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Healthcare Workers of Azerbaijan and the “Union of Management of Medical Territorial Units” public legal entity (TABIB).
The Republican Committee of the Trade Union actively cooperates with trade unions of foreign countries, including the European Federation of Public Service Trade Unions (EPSU) and the International Public Service Trade Unions (IPSU).
The Health Workers Trade Union has an 80-seat “Shafa” recreation center, built and put into operation in the Gusar district in 2016 for the recreation of its members.
