In September 1990, the “Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Entrepreneurship Workers” was founded, and in March 1991, the “Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Science, Scientific-Production and Private Enterprise Workers” was founded. Later, the two trade unions, which operated separately, merged in April 1997 upon the recommendation of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan and became a single body.

At the extraordinary conference held on November 26, 1997, the Charter in a new edition was approved and re-registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the organization began to operate under the name “Azerbaijan Independent Trade Union of Entrepreneurship and Science, Scientific-Production Enterprise Workers”.

The sectoral trade union builds its activities on the basis of the current legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, including the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Trade Unions”, decisions and recommendations of the AHIK, as well as its own Charter.

The sectoral trade union organization is an independent non-political public organization that voluntarily unites employees of entrepreneurship and science, scientific-production, small, joint, rental and innovation enterprises, companies, associations, corporations, joint-stock companies, councils, unions, private higher and secondary schools, as well as all persons engaged in entrepreneurial activity without creating a legal entity.

According to the Charter, the supreme body of the first organizations is a meeting (conference), regional and conference at the level of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During this period, the Republican Committee of the sectoral trade union has held 5 conferences.

Currently, the sectoral trade union organization has a wide network. District and united trade union committees have been established in the cities and districts of the republic, as well as in the city of Baku. The field trade union organization unites 46 city and district committees and 8 joint trade union committees. 42,530 trade union members are registered in 2,344 member organizations of the Republican Committee of Trade Unions.
