In 1991, the Independent Trade Union of Defense Industry Workers of the Republic of Azerbaijan was created, uniting employees of defense industrial enterprises, spheres engaged in a similar type of activity of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, enterprises of the State Committee for Special Engineering and Conversion.
In February 2007, the IV reporting and election conference of the Independent Trade Union of Defense Industry Workers of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held, at which Rufat Hamid oglu Mufid-Zade was elected the new chairman of the trade union.
In 2008, the First Congress of the reorganized union was held, and the Charter of the Union was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan and renamed the Trade Union of Defense Industry Workers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The supreme organ of the union is Congress. In the inter-entry period, the management of the union is carried out by the Republican Committee, at least once a year it meets in the Mejlis. For operational management of the trade union, the Presidium of the Republican Committee is elected from the members of the Republican Committee.
A collective agreement on tariffs for 2011-2013 was signed with the Ministry of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The Republican Committee actively cooperates with the International Union of Trade Unions of Defense Industry Workers and the Turkish Military Workers Union.

The delegation of the Republican Committee took part in the congresses of the International Union of Trade Unions of Defense Industry Workers in 2008 and 2009. In addition, in 2009, a bilateral agreement on friendship and cooperation was concluded with the Belarusian trade union of industrial workers.
