The creation of a trade union in Nakhchivan on December 4, 1921 played an important role in the social and political life of the region. At that time, the organization united 3 regional trade union committees, 27 city and district committees, 3 united trade union committees, about 400 first trade union committees.
Since the 50s of the last century, important changes have taken place in the life of the trade unions of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Starting from this period, the formation of union committees in the context of regions, on the one hand, allowed the movement to approach the first organizations, and on the other, required centralized control of a large expanding movement.
Taking all this into account, at the constituent conference held on November 17, 1967, the Nakhchivan Regional Council of Trade Unions, an activist of trade unions in the Autonomous Republic, was organized.

The activity of the Council of Trade Unions of the Nakhchivan region has further intensified in the first periods of the leadership of the national leader Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan. On the initiative of the great leader, a new building of the Council of Trade Unions of the Autonomous Republic was built and commissioned in 1974.
The supreme body of the regional Council of Trade Unions is a conference convened every 5 years. During the interfaith period, the governing body is the Majlis. In the inter-parliamentary period, the supreme executive body is the Presidium of the Council.
After our country gained independence in the 90s of the last century, a new stage began in the history of trade unions.
And today the Nakhchivan trade union is increasing its efforts in the development of society, the formation of a socio-economic environment, solving everyday problems of citizens, further improving working conditions, and pays constant attention to the labor and social concerns of workers. The Council of Trade Unions unites 70,814 members, 1,250 first organizations, 6 autonomous republics and 10 united district and city committees.
In 2008, the administrative building of the Council of Trade Unions of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was thoroughly restored. On April 9 of the same year, the 40th anniversary of the Council of Trade Unions of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was celebrated. The anniversary took place on April 28, 2008. At that time, a number of members of the union were awarded orders, medals and honorary titles of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
