In 1905, postal and telegraph employees in Baku established the local branch of the All-Russian Post and Telegraph Employees' First Trade Union.
On February 22, 1968, the IV Plenum of the Republican Committee of Communications and Motor Transport Workers and Highway Workers adopted a decision to establish two Independent Sectoral Trade Union Republican Committees: "Communication Workers" and "Motor Transport Workers and Highway Workers".
The Union operated under the name of the Republican Committee of the Independent Trade Union of Azerbaijan Communications Workers. On January 24, 2020, the Charter of the Union was amended and it was renamed the Azerbaijan Transport, Communications and High Technology Workers' Trade Union.
The Azerbaijan Transport, Communications and High Technology Workers Trade Union is a union of trade union organizations established by workplace, profession, territory, and sector to protect the labor, social, economic rights and legitimate interests of workers working in the field of communications, transport and high technology. The NRYTIHI operates in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, generally accepted principles and norms of international law, international treaties ratified by the Republic of Azerbaijan, the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its subjects, and the current Charter.
The NRYTIHI is an integral part of the trade union movement and a member of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation.
Currently, the Union unites about 20 thousand members who are members of the trade union in 168 primary organizations consisting of 5 trade union branches and 2 joint trade union committees and work in the field of transport, communications and high technology.
The “Nabran Communications Worker Recreation Base” operates in the Nabran settlement of the Khachmaz district of the Union.

The Republican Committee of the Trade Union of Transport, Communications, High Technology Workers, as a member of UNI Global and RIBHI (MOR), regularly participates in the events of these organizations.
