In Azerbaijan, the trade union movement in the field of oil dates back to the 90s of the XIX century. In 1904, the first ever collective agreement between Baku oil workers and employers, called the "Fuel Oil Agreement," marked the beginning of the trade union movement in the oil industry of Azerbaijan. Today, 98.5% of SOCAR employees are members of the Union of Oil and Gas Workers of Azerbaijan. In total, the union of oil and gas workers unites 63,580 members in its ranks.
The Supreme body of the Union is the Congress and is convened by the Assembly (with the exception of exceptional cases) no later than 5 years later. The supreme body of the union in the inter-entry period is the Meeting, which is held at least once every 6 months. During the intersessional period of the meeting, the Presidium, which is the executive body of the union, is convened at least 3 times every 1 month.
The "Regulation on Standing Committees" of the Republican Committee was approved. In accordance with the Regulation, there are 6 standing commissions:
1. Organizational Affairs Commission
2. Collective Bargaining Agreement Commission
3. Commission on Social and Economic Affairs
4. Occupational Safety and Health Commission
5. Labor Dispute Commission
6. Commission on Women and Gender
The structural service of the Union includes 106 first trade union organizations. Of these, 86 enterprises are owned by SOCAR, 17 are private, joint, foreign companies and 3 are other trade union organizations.
ANQSI HI RK has been a member of the International Confederation of Oil and Gas Workers' Unions since 1996.
Since 1999 a member of ICEM, and since 2012 - the Global Organization IndustriALL, which unites more and more international trade unions.
