In 1906, a trade union organization was created in Baku, uniting 230 members of the trade unions of food producers.

In 1917, trade unions of millers, tobacco growers, beer and kvass producers, bakers and confectioners operated in Baku.

June 5, 1920 Food Producers, Mills, Tobacco Growers, Beer and Kvass Producers; Union organizations of bakers and confectioners unite - food workers; - Smokers; - Rural and forest workers have formed field unions.

n 1953, the sectoral trade unions that existed in the republic in the field of agriculture merged into two sectoral trade unions: - Agricultural and supply workers; - Food workers have formed unions.

In 1986, the trade union of agricultural workers was renamed in 1991 into the Trade Union of Agricultural Workers of Azerbaijan, and since 2000 - into the Trade Union of Agricultural and Food Workers.

The sectoral trade union consists of 832 first organizations (381 of them are the first organizations of private enterprises), 3 combined, 44 district, city and 1 regional committee, the number of members of which is 72,225 people.

The supreme body of the field trade union is the Congress, convened every five years. The IV Congress was convened in May 2005. In the inter-union period, the governing body of the union is the Industry Union Meeting. The Assembly elects the Executive Committee of the field trade union to organize and conduct the ongoing work, the implementation of its Statutory function. Meetings of the Executive Committee are convened as necessary, but at least once every three months.

One of the main activities of the Federation is bilateral negotiations with employers to ensure the socio-economic rights of employees, the conclusion of sectoral tariff agreements and collective agreements.

The Federation works closely with the Federation of   the Rural Voluntary Sports Society “Mehsul” in the direction of strengthening the health of union members, attracting young people to physical education and sports.

The Federation is a member of the International Union of Tobacco, Agricultural and Related Industry Workers. The Federation together with the International Union implemented 3 projects.

The Federation has established close ties with trade unions in Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Uzbekistan.

In order to support the solution of similar problems facing sectoral trade unions operating in the Eurasian region in the field of protecting the legal rights of workers, ensuring the principles of decent work, free, democratic social justice, organizing mutual cooperation and exchanging experience in the process of negotiations with transnational companies located in the region, 12 countries of the region: Field trade unions (Republics of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Romania, Montenegro, Sarajevo, Kosovo, Macedonia, Serbia, Central Asia, Georgia) are united in the Eurasian Federation of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Tourism.

The Eurasian Federation unites 21 sectoral trade unions representing the above countries. The Eurasian Federation is headquartered in Istanbul, Turkey. On August 31, 2007, at the Constituent Congress of the Organization, Tofik Guliyev, vice-president of the Eurasian Federation, was elected chairman of the Kishlok-Azyk-Ish Federation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan.
