The emergence of the trade union movement in the oil sector in Azerbaijan dates back to the 1990s. In 1904, the first collective agreement in the world, which was called the "Mazut Contract" between Baku oil workers and employers, laid the foundation for the trade union movement in the oil industry of Azerbaijan. It unites workers in the fields of oil and gas production, transportation, processing, geological exploration, design, chemical enterprises and other service sectors.
The committee includes 106 trade union organizations and has 64,205 members.
The supreme body of the Union is the Congress and is convened by the Assembly (except in exceptional cases) no later than every 5 years. In the period between Congresses, the supreme body of the Union is the Assembly, which is held no less than once every 6 months. In the period between sessions of the Assembly, the Presidium, which is the executive body of the Union, is convened no less than once every 3 months.
The "Regulations on Standing Commissions" of the Trade Union have been approved. In accordance with the Regulations, 6 standing commissions operate:
1. Commission on Organizational Issues
2. Commission on Collective Agreements
3. Commission on Socio-Economic Issues
4. Commission on Labor and Health Protection
5. Commission on Labor Disputes
6. Commission on Women and Gender Issues
The Republican Committee of the Azerbaijan Oil and Gas Industry Workers' Trade Union has been a member of the International Confederation of Oil and Gas Construction Workers' Trade Unions since 1996.
Since 2012, it has been a member of Industry ALL, a global organization that unites many international trade unions.
