Azerbaijan Education Workers Free Trade Union Republican Committee was established in 1920. Azerbaijan Education Workers Free Trade Union was established as the successor of the Azerbaijan Cultural Education Workers Trade Union in 1920, June 9.
Until then, several teachers' unions in Azerbaijan operated spontaneously and limited their activities only to the demand for an increase in their salaries. In subsequent years, the Azerbaijan Cultural and Educational Workers' Trade Union was called the Education, Higher School, Scientific Administration Workers' Trade Union (MAMEIIHI), the Public Education and Science Workers' Trade Union (XTEIHI), and since 1990, the Azerbaijan Education Workers' Free Trade Union (ATIAHI). It unites employees, students, and postgraduates of state and private enterprises, organizations, higher, secondary, primary vocational and general education institutions operating in the education system.
The Committee consists of 5722 first, including 76 city and district and 1 united trade union organizations and has 405181 members.
The Union establishes bilateral relations with relevant trade union organizations of some countries within the framework of international cooperation for the purpose of exchange of experience and information, and is also a full member of a number of international trade unions.
ATIAHI has been a member of the International Union of Trade Unions of Science and Education Workers located in Moscow, Russian Federation since 1992, the International Union of Education Workers located in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium since 2000, and the International Union of Eurasian Education Workers located in Ankara, Republic of Turkey since 2006.
