“Since modern Azerbaijan entered the international arena as an independent state, establishing and developing high-level relations with Turkic-speaking countries has been an important part of the priority directions of its foreign policy. From this point of view, relations between friendly and brotherly Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan can be highly valued. Diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in 1995, in 1996 the diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan, and in 1998 in Baku. Historical facts confirm that the relations between our peoples, who have the same ancestry, language, religion, and common culture, go back to ancient times. I would like to highlight the mutual official visits of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the late President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov in order to raise our relations to this level.

A package of documents consisting of 18 agreements signed during the official visit of Islam Karimov to our country on May 26-27, 1996, as well as 19 documents signed during the official visit of the Great Leader to this country in June 1997, serves as a fundamental legal basis to deepen our cooperation and are of a strategic nature.

Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev said in his statement to the press.

According to him, the fraternal country always defended the right cause of Azerbaijan during the long-lasting Karabakh conflict and showed its support on various platforms: “I refer to this as the Republic of Azerbaijan, which formed the basis of strategic relations during the visit of our head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Uzbekistan in 2004. And the Republic of Uzbekistan “Declaration on further strengthening of strategic partnership”.

With this document, Uzbekistan expressed its firm support for the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and the implementation of relevant UN resolutions and OSCE decisions. I would also like to remind you that in 2008, when the resolution “Situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan” was put to the vote at the UN, Uzbekistan supported our country by voting in favor of this document. By the way, I want to note that the President of Uzbekistan, Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, congratulated our country on the occasion of the historic victory over Armenia, and even said that a school will be built in the liberated Fuzuli district, and work is being carried out in this direction.

“The visit of our head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Uzbekistan, the meetings held, the documents signed will make a significant contribution to deepening and diversification of bilateral relations and will form a new stage in the relations between the two countries. I would like to emphasize that the growing influence of Azerbaijan in the international world is constantly increasing the number of our partners. We can proudly say that our country has become a voice both in the region and in the world. His glorious victory in the Patriotic War, as a result of his important contributions to peace and security in the region, have increased the importance of our country. Also, other states express their satisfaction with cooperation with Azerbaijan, which has confirmed itself as a reliable partner. The reception of President Ilham Aliyev at a high level in Tashkent is a clear confirmation of the special respect and esteem shown to him.

Mr. Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s speech during the opening of Heydar Aliyev Square in Tashkent, his kind and sincere words about great leader Heydar Aliyev and our country, as well as his once again expressed that the liberated territories are native Azerbaijani lands, and his assessment of this as the restoration of historical justice is a manifestation of fraternal relations,” the MP said.

The chairman of ATUC added that the expansion of transport and logistics capabilities of Azerbaijan, joining international and regional transport networks will lead to an increase in the volume of cargo transportation from Uzbekistan, and to the rise of economic and trade relations between our countries.
