The Republican Committee of the Independent Trade Union of Railway Workers of Azerbaijan held a round table on “The role of Heydar Aliyev in the development of the railway” on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of national leader, genius, world-famous political figure Heydar Aliyev.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Republican Committee Fazail Bagirov said that a large part of the history of railway development in the country is associated with the name of Heydar Aliyev: “Thanks to the attention and care of our national leader, the railway infrastructure reached its peak at the end of last century. The great leader has always focused on the activities of this field, both in the Republic of Azerbaijan and as the First Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the former USSR, and paid special attention to its development. At the initiative and under the leadership of the genius, Shirvan station, Yevlakh-Balakan, Guzdek-Garadagh railway lines, one of the largest sorting stations of the former USSR, and other railway stations of great importance in the implementation of the Azerbaijan State Railway were built and put into operation. As a result of the work done, the volume of cargo transported by rail reached 80-90 million tons in that period.
“Heydar Aliyev, who was brought to the country’s leadership for the second time at the request of the people, focused on the development of Azerbaijan’s railway infrastructure. A worthy successor of the national leader’s political line, President Ilham Aliyev has also taken consistent measures in the railway system. A number of important projects implemented under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan to build Azerbaijani Railways in accordance with international standards have accelerated the development of railway infrastructure. Reconstruction, overhaul and renewal of the local railway are one of the main tasks that can ensure the normal operation of international and regional transport corridors in the future and increase the flow of goods through Azerbaijan. During 2015-2019,” Azerbaijan Railways ” CJSC overhauled 841.7 km of roads and 875 sets of switchboards, bought 3101 new freight wagons and 32 new locomotives. The head of the country has set a number of important tasks to be implemented in the coming years before “Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC. One of them is the reconstruction of existing railway lines and the improvement of the railway network, ” F.Bagirov noted.
According to him, all these construction works carried out on the railways of our country create a favorable environment for strengthening the Azerbaijani economy.
Other speakers spoke about the Great Leader’s mission in the life of our people, army building, economic success, services in the development of transport infrastructure.
