On July 30, the Executive Committee of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan appealed to international organizations to amend the law on foreign aid adopted by the House of Representatives, which prohibits US financial and training assistance to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
The appeal says:
“It is with great regret that the House of Representatives of the US Congress supported the amendment to the law on foreign aid proposed by Congressman Frank Pallone and other members of the Armenian group. The amendment prohibits US financial and training assistance to the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the basis of biased and false arguments.
The House of Representatives tried to portray the Azerbaijani side as an aggressor by providing false evidence that obscured the aggressive policy of the Armenian state. This evidence does not reflect the reality, it is far from the truth.
Armenia has occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory for nearly 30 years, expelling more than a million Azerbaijanis from their ancestral lands. All villages and towns in the occupied territories were destroyed, a policy of genocide was pursued, and cultural and religious monuments were destroyed.
In 1993, the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions (822, 853, 874 and 884) on the Armenian aggression. Each of the resolutions condemned the aggressive policy of the Armenians and unequivocally demanded the unconditional withdrawal of the Armenian military units from the occupied Azerbaijani lands. Ignoring the requirements and principles of international law, Armenia again attacked Azerbaijan on September 27, 2020 in order to further expand its aggressive policy. In addition to preventing this provocation, the Azerbaijani Army launched counter-offensive operations and liberated its internationally recognized territories from Armenian occupation in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
The arguments put forward by pro-Armenian senators are not true. The adoption of such a proposal in the House of Representatives of an influential country in the world, such as the United States, is unfair and unfortunate. We strongly condemn the decision. We demand that it be reconsidered and objectively considered.
Today, at a time when the restoration of our cities and villages destroyed by the Armenian occupation is on the agenda, the European Union has demonstrated double standards and allocated 2.6 billion euros in aid to Armenia and 150 million euros to Azerbaijan. This is another example of injustice.
As Azerbaijani trade unions, we call on all international organizations, including the International Trade Union Confederation, the General Trade Union Confederation, the Pan-European Regional Council, the Global Trade Unions and other labor organizations, to treat such issues fairly and objectively. ”
