On October 18, 1991, as a result of the freedom struggle, the desire of our people to live independently and freely came true, and the state independence of Azerbaijan was restored.
In the first years, there was a threat of the loss of our independence and the destruction of our state. Our nation got rid of the difficult situation it was in by bringing its genius son Heydar Aliyev to power. The foundations established by National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the direction of protecting and strengthening our independence are being successfully continued by his worthy follower, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. Azerbaijan is currently at the highest peak of its development as an independent state founded on the principles of rule of law, democracy and secularism.
Brave and courageous sons, daughters of our nation have bravely fought and sacrificed their lives for the sake of the Motherland in the path of restoring the independence and territorial integrity of the Azerbaijan state. Therefore, protecting and preserving our independence, making it eternal is the highest duty of honor for each of us.
