Employees of AHIK participated in the international seminar

On June 17-21, in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova, the Regional Workers’ Academy for Sustainable Development held a seminar on “Strengthening the activity of trade unions on sustainable development for Europe and Central Asia – on the way to the global summit – labor rights.”

Representatives of the trade unions of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Moldova and Armenia participated in the seminar, which was jointly organized by the Labor Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO-ACTRAV), the International Training Center and the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova.

Our country was represented at the event by Gara Aghayev, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (AHIK), and Leyla Hamzayeva, instructor of the Organizational Affairs and Information Department.

ACTRAV’s senior specialist of ITC-ILO programs, Evelyn Tot, spoke about the importance of the seminar and brought to the attention of the participants the duties of trade unions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Igor Zubko, the chairman of the Moldovan National Trade Union Confederation, spoke about the importance of the 8th goal related to Decent Work and Economic Growth, and Wolfgang Schaefer, the ILO adviser, talked about sustainable development concepts and countries’ experiences during the training.

It should be noted that during the five-day training, international and national experts shared their views and experiences on the role and obligations of trade unions, new challenges of the labor market, demands of trade unions and cooperation with various international organizations, development of partnerships for effective social dialogue, and determination of priorities for the next period. AHIK representatives who actively participated in various group works and country presentations in the training were awarded with “Certificates of Achievement” specially prepared by the International Training Center of ILO.
