Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC), MP Sattar Mohbaliyev said in his statement to mass media.
“It is no coincidence that Mr. Ilham Aliyev is invited to any meetings of regional and international nature, of which Azerbaijan is a member or not, and his valuable thoughts are received. Of course, all this is directly related to the personal authority of the head of our state. The next such event, which was attended by President Ilham Aliyev, was a meeting with veterans and employees of the railway industry on April 22 in Moscow on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Baikal-Amur Highway (BAM). As we know, BAM is one of the largest transport projects ever implemented worldwide. And the deep hard work and selfless work of Azerbaijanis in the creation of this project is undeniable. A striking example of this are two settlements built on the BAM. So, it was the brigades of Azerbaijanis who built the settlements of Ulkan and Angoy and handed over the work two months earlier than the planned time,” the chairman of the ATUC said.
“Each of us was proud of the fact that veterans of the railway field, led by Russian President Vladimir Putin, remembered our great leader and shared pleasant memories of him. This is a history in which Heydar Aliyev, who rebuilt the state called Azerbaijan and directed it to a great and irreversible path of development, left a deep mark with his unique activity while working as the first deputy chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers. He went to the construction region in June 1984 in order to speed up the construction of the BAM and improve the quality of the work carried out. The great leader meets the workers there, inspects construction facilities, gets acquainted with new settlements and cities under construction.
The fact that the leading official of the USSR met and talked with simple workers, was interested in their concerns, gives them a new impulse, inspires them to work harder to complete the work. After his extensive speech in the Politburo about the progress of construction, his initiatives to speed up the work carried out, serious progress has taken place in the construction of the BAM. We can say with confidence that directly due to the professional activity of Heydar Aliyev, in 1984, due to the Baikal-Amur highway, the length of railway lines in the USSR increased by more than 300 thousand kilometers. It is proud that in 2008, when the Angoy station in BAM was renovated, it was named after the great leader Heydar Aliyev, and this was the fairest decision.”
