The awarding ceremony of the winners of the sports competitions organized by the Republican
Committee of the Free Trade Union of Azerbaijan Education Workers within the framework of
the "Year of Heydar Aliyev" was held.
The winners of the Spartakiad among higher education institutions in 6 sports, the competitions
in 5 sports among employees of general educational institutions of Baku, the 15th Republican
Universiade in 8 sports among higher school students, and the winners of secondary vocational
educational institutions in 3 sports participated in the ceremony.
First, the dear memory of the founder and founder of the Azerbaijan state Heydar Aliyev and our
martyrs was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK),
Member of the Milli Majlis, Sattar Mohbaliyev, said that the purpose of organizing sports
competitions is to show respect and honor to the dear memory of National Leader Heydar
Aliyev, to weave and promote the rich and diverse heritage of the Great Leader, who is the
national treasure of our people. "These events were met with great enthusiasm by teachers of
secondary schools, as well as employees and students of higher schools. More than a thousand
teachers and hundreds of students took part in these sports events. The sports policy established
by the Great Leader is the foundation of the successes achieved in the field of sports in
Azerbaijan. Back in 1969-1982, when Heydar Aliyev led the Republic, the future development
prospects of all fields, including sports, were seriously considered in Azerbaijan. During these
years, many sports complexes, facilities, halls were built, sports grounds were built, and large
sports and health centers were established in the country. A lot of work was done to create the
material and technical base of sports in the country. In 1974, 59 sports schools for children and
youth were operating in 36 districts of Azerbaijan, except for Baku. Even after national leader
Heydar Aliyev was re-elected as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 1993 at the
insistence of the people, he did not spare his attention and concern for the development of this
field."
Sattar Mohbaliyev noted that the strategy laid by the Great Leader regarding the development of
sports is being successfully continued today: "In order to ensure the development of mass
physical education and the healthy growth of the young generation, the President of the country
Mr. Ilham Aliyev signed many decrees and orders, state programs . In Baku and in Azerbaijan as
a whole, great work has been done in the direction of creating sports infrastructure. Mass sports
are ensured in Azerbaijan and the Olympic movement is at a high level. I believe that the
development of mass physical education has its own role in the success achieved in sports. We,
as a trade union, always pay attention to this area. From time to time, various mass sports
competitions are organized among students and teachers, universiades, spartakiades are held. We
are determined to continue our activities aimed at ensuring the mass of sports and the efficient
organization of free time of educational workers."
Then the awarding ceremony started. Gift coupons and diplomas were given to 118 winners of
the Spartakiad among high school employees and 130 winners of the competitions among
employees of secondary schools of Baku city.
At the same time, cups, diplomas and sports uniforms were presented to 300 winners of the 15th
Universiade of higher school students and competitions of secondary specialized educational
institutions.
