“In general, the history of the Azerbaijani people is a heroic epic. Every page contains devotion to the motherland, patriotism, struggle against invaders, national freedom struggles.

Also, our heroic and wise people have left a deep mark in world history by being at the forefront of the fight against human threats. When the world was facing the threat of fascism, the people of Azerbaijan took a firm stand, and the mobilization announced in 1941 became a national movement in our republic. The number of volunteers alone was in the thousands. Along with men, women also went to the front. During the war, more than 11 thousand Azerbaijani women joined the mobilization. During the Second World War, Azerbaijanis made a name for themselves with their courage and bravery on all the fronts they participated in. They had a great share in the victory over fascism with their high fighting spirit.

More than 600,000 zealous sons and daughters of our militant nation were active participants in the war and became a symbol of our zeal. The 77th, 223rd, 271st, 396th, 402nd and 416th national rifle divisions, formed from Azerbaijanis, entered the name of our nation among the victorious nations of the Second World War by passing the glorious battle route from the Caucasus to Berlin. Also, Azerbaijanis participated in the liberation of Poland, the Czech Republic, former Yugoslavia and other countries, and showed perseverance.”

Sattar Mohbaliyev, chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHIK), member of the Milli Majlis, expressed these views to the mass media.

According to him, it was no coincidence that more than 170,000 of our soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals.

“Hazi Aslanov, who won the title of Hero of the Soviet Union twice, as well as Israfil Mammadov, Mehdi Huseynzade, and Geray Asadov set an example for the generations that came after them and raised the name of our nation to great heights. Also, I would like to mention the names of Gafur Mammadov, Huseynbala Aliyev, who landed the plane he piloted despite receiving 17 serious wounds, pilot Zuleikha Seyidmammadova, sniper Ziba Salimova, and ship captain Shavkat Salimova, who are among the architects of the victory over fascism.

Ziya Bunyadov, Rashid Majidov and others. Among them, the names of Azerbaijanis were included among the heroes of France, Italy and other countries, they were awarded with orders and medals of those countries.

“Of course, when talking about the victory over fascism, the importance of Baku oil cannot be neglected. By the way, four out of every five airplanes, every five tanks, and every five cars ran on Baku gasoline.

In a word, in the Second World War, Azerbaijan made significant contributions to victory with all its capabilities,” the MP of the Milli Majlis emphasized.

The chairman of ATUC said that the anniversary of the historic Victory over fascism is celebrated every year in our country: “On the Victory Day, our head of state, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, commemorates the dear memory of Hazi Aslanov and the brave sons of our people who took part in the battles, meets with war veterans, and conveys holiday congratulations.
