On April 18, the Spartakiad dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, organized by the Free Trade Union and the Council of Young Scientists and Experts, was opened in ANAS, consisting of football, table tennis and chess (women’s and men’s) competitions.

The president of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli, general directors of scientific institutions and organizations under and covered by the Academy, as well as football, table tennis, chess teams and media representatives took part in the opening ceremony.

The head of ANAS emphasized that among the events dedicated to the National Leader, sports competitions are also of special importance, and the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev has rendered unparalleled services in the direction of Azerbaijani athletes taking their rightful place in the world sports arena and active participation in the Olympic movement.

“President Ilham Aliyev, who has achieved development in all fields in our country, also pays special attention to sports policy. The Olympic complexes built in the capital and regions of Azerbaijan have challenged the development of sports in our country. Meetings are held by the head of the country with our athletes who are successful in international competitions, they are always given great attention and care. President Ilham Aliyev also introduced Azerbaijan to the world as a sports country, and the holding of major competitions such as the European and Islamic Games in Baku in the years of independence is a proof of this,” said academician Isa Habibbayli.

Chairman of the Free Trade Union of ANAS, professor Habil Gurbanov said in his speech that every year the inter-institutional football championship dedicated to the Great Leader is held at the Academy, and every two years competitions are held in Spartakia. He noted that it is an honor and pride that this year’s Spartakiad coincides with the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”. Habil Gurbanov, who said that the scientific institutions and organizations under and covered by the Academy always actively participate in the Spartakiad, pointed out that a total of 15 institutions participated in the current football, table tennis and chess (between women and men) competitions.
