A sub-regional seminar called “Trade Unions Facing Choice” was organized in Baku under the joint organization of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) and the International Labor Organization (ILO).
The event was attended by the chairman of ATUC, Sattar Mohbaliyev , the management of the Confederation’s member organizations, representatives of the ILO, international trade unions, as well as relevant institutions of foreign countries.
Ilyas Aliyev , the first deputy chairman of ATUC, spoke about the strategy of Azerbaijan’s trade unions, the tasks ahead against the background of the realities of modern development, and the work planned and to be done in accordance with the established goals.
International Labor Organization representative for Europe and Central Asia Sergius Glovaskas, representative of the International Trade Union Confederation, executive secretary of the Pan-European Regional Council Anton Leppik and other guests spoke about the current situation regarding the activity of trade unions in the world,they talked about the goals and tasks set according to today’s challenges, the benefits of mutual relations with the UN, the importance of the experiences of Azerbaijan, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Georgia and Uzbekistan. The speeches also touched on the necessity of inter-country exchange of experience, improvement of social protection systems, development ways of the green economy, and the role of trade unions in ensuring a fair transition to an ecologically clean economy was emphasized.
Erdogan Serdengeşti , the assistant general secretary of Turkey’s largest trade union Hak-İş Union , spoke about the work done by trade unions in his country, and the work done in the direction of directing people working in fields undergoing global change to new professions. He especially noted that every society should be adapted to the changes related to the emergence of new professions, professional staff should be trained in this direction, staff shortage should not be allowed.
