The Executive Committee of the ATUC issued a statement on the resolution adopted against Azerbaijan in the French Senate

The statement reads:

“The resolution adopted by the French Senate entitled “The imposition of sanctions against Azerbaijan and its immediate withdrawal from the territory of Armenia, the demand to comply with the ceasefire agreement dated November 9, 2020 and the promotion of all initiatives aimed at the establishment of lasting peace between the two countries” is a continuation.

With its biased position and hypocritical steps, France regularly intervenes in the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the direction of improving relations, and creates obstacles to the normalization process whether it is appropriate or not. After the Karabakh conflict entered history, they repeatedly tried to increase the tension between the two countries with their false statements. It seems clear that they are worried about the steps taken to promote peace in the region.

During the ongoing 30-year occupation, France, which considers itself one of the leading countries in the world, did not even remember the violated rights of the civilized people who were expelled from their native land by military intervention and living as displaced persons. Even during the negotiated settlement of the conflict, it disguised itself as a “neutral state” under the umbrella of the Minsk Group. The subsequent progress of the processes, including the relegation of the conflict to history, revealed the true approaches of such states.

After the end of the occupation, the return of internally displaced persons to their homes, France’s biased position in the framework of peace efforts, is nothing more than increasing the tension. Even the drafters of the resolution seem to be completely unaware of the processes, they either do not see or do not want to see what is happening in the region.

The authors of this senseless and legally binding resolution should know that Azerbaijan, the leader of the region, has created new realities based on peace and security as a victorious state. The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has already gone down in history like the Minsk Group.

Currently, Azerbaijan’s relations with European countries are constantly expanding in all fields. Mutual visits organized at the level of heads of state and signed documents also show this. Also, our country is one of the main providers of energy security in Europe and is considered one of the important countries in the world.

Once again, we strongly condemn this resolution of the French Senate and consider it a provocative document that hinders peace and stability.”
