With the arrival of Heydar Aliyev, who was appointed as the head of our republic in 1969, he brought a healthy spirit and self-awareness to the people, despite the strict prohibitions of the Soviet ideology, he attached special importance to national and moral values, and the revival of Azerbaijani science and culture. Development and awakening began to be observed in all areas, Azerbaijan entered the period of real renaissance and revival. The moral, psychological and economic base created by a genius in the republic came to the aid of the people when the Soviet Union began to collapse.

On November 17, 1988, the people of Azerbaijan rose up against the Soviet empire in the struggle for national freedom. Gradually, the determination of the people to fight increased, and their self-confidence increased.

On November 17, 1990, the first session of the Supreme Council of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic was held. The issue of state symbols of the autonomous republic was also discussed at that historic session chaired by National Leader Heydar Aliyev. After the discussion of the People’s Deputies, a proposal was made regarding the adoption of the tricolor flag as a state symbol. The session that made a decision on the restoration of the tricolor flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic filed a petition before the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan regarding its acceptance as the state flag. Thus, the beginning of the historical path from national revival to national progress was laid. The restoration of Azerbaijan’s independence was the positive end of this historical path.

Currently, independent Azerbaijan under the leadership of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev is the leading state of the region, the main provider of peace and stability. A new reality has already emerged in the region. This reality was created by Azerbaijan, whose international reputation is growing day by day, and which is a reliable partner for the countries of the world.
