Within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, an event was held in Baku on November 17 at the initiative of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and organized by the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC).
Representatives of trade unions of various countries participating in COP29 hosted by Azerbaijan took part in the event on the theme of “Strategic Day for Trade Unions”.
Luke Triangle, General Secretary of ITUC, informed the participants about the purpose and topic of the event and spoke about its importance. He also expressed his satisfaction with the exemplary organization and progress of COP29, and said that the discussions and results will be useful in fighting the consequences of climate change.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation Sahib Mammadov spoke about the COP29 held in our country. He said that Azerbaijan, a responsible country, is always sensitive to global problems, the head of our state, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, takes important initiatives regarding the future of humanity. According to him, Azerbaijan has organized this prestigious international event – COP29 at a high level, and all work in this framework is carried out systematically. Speaking about Azerbaijan’s green agenda, the chairman of the Confederation reminded the trade unions of their duties in the fight against climate change, and drew attention to the importance of solidarity and cooperation in this direction. He noted that COP29 is a unique platform for discussing current issues such as protection of workers’ rights and social justice, improvement of working conditions.
