An event related to the World Decent Labor Day was held at AHIK

An event was held in Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (AHİK) on October 7 – World Decent Labor Day.

The event was attended by administrative staff of AHIK, representatives of member organizations, as well as legal and technical labor inspectors.

At the opening of the event, Orkhan Arabov, adviser to the chairman of the AHIK, spoke and gave information about the essence of decent work, the work done by our state and trade unions in this aspect, the importance of establishing the World Decent Labor Day, and also mentioned the tasks ahead in this direction. He said that defining the concept of decent work includes 4 spheres – employment, law, protection and dialogue. These include all aspects from decent income to working conditions, equality between workers, dialogue between management and workers, as well as access to social protection.

According to him, the quality of work of an employee working in decent working conditions increases and this leads to further improvement and productivity of the production process: “One of the main goals of the Sustainable Development Goals approved for 2016-2030 at the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in 2015 and promoting decent employment and decent work for everyone. In the past period, Azerbaijan has joined up to 60 conventions of the ILO, two Decent Labor Country Programs have been successfully implemented together with this organization, and work is currently underway on the project of a new Decent Labor Country Program. The program envisages new initiatives in ensuring fundamental labor rights and principles in accordance with the international agenda in our country. The policy aimed at strengthening the social protection of the population in Azerbaijan is fully consistent with the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030.”

Then, at the event, discussions on decent work were held, opinions and suggestions were heard.

The participation of trade unions in the public discussions about the Country Program on Decent Labor conducted by the participants of the event, the preparation and implementation of action plans related to decent labor during the year, as well as the implementation of the educational project called Decent Labor Ambassadors consisting of well-known people and public influential persons and other 30 Various proposals were voiced and recorded.

Also, the participants’ questions on the topic were answered at the event.
