“Climate changes and just transition: the role and activities of trade unions” jointly organized by the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), the International Labor Organization (ILO-ACTRAV), the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) the international conference held on September 27 continued with panel discussions.
First of all, the video appeal of Nigar Arpadarai, the high-ranking champion of COP29 on Climate, was heard.
Panel sessions were held at the conference on COP29 – Raising ambitions and boosting action, just transition in the Caucasus and Central Asia, social protection in just transition, role of gender and youth in just transition, trade union priorities for COP29. Also, interactive sessions were organized in order to develop action plans and strategies to increase the participation of trade unions in climate negotiations, and meetings for cooperation between different parties were held.
It should be noted that the participants of the conference held a minute’s silence in memory of our martyrs who fought heroically in the Patriotic War and died for the integrity of our country at 12 o’clock on the occasion of Memorial Day.
The closing session was followed by the launch of the book “Climate change and a just transition – a guide for trade unions (2024)”, jointly published by the Danish Trade Union Development Agency and the International Labor Organization’s Bureau of Workers’ Action.
