AHIK chairman Sahib Mammadov met with representatives of ILO

Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation Sahib Mammadov met with Mrs. Maria Helena Andrena, director of ILO’s Bureau of Workers’ Activities, and Gocha Alexandria, senior specialist of ILO’s Country office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, who are visiting our country.

Giving information on the activities of the Azerbaijani trade unions, the chairman of the AHIK said that the high level of protection of human rights and freedoms in our country and the adopted legislations regarding the labor rights of our citizens open wide opportunities for our free and productive activity. According to him, the trade unions of Azerbaijan currently reliably protect the labor, social, economic rights and legal interests of their members.

Touching on the international relations of AHIK, Sahib Mammadov said that they attach special importance to this field, and that their activities will be based on advanced international standards and progressive practices from now on.

The chairman of the confederation emphasized that AHIK has extensive relations based on mutual trust with the ILO, the organization’s conventions are widely applied in our country, and at the same time representatives of trade unions participate in the organization’s annual sessions.

Sahib Mammadov also said that with the support of the ILO, dozens of seminars, conferences and round tables were held in Baku and the regions, and authorized experts and representatives of the organization participated in the events.

The chairman noted with satisfaction that AHIK is one of the two priority trade union organizations selected by the ILO under the Sustainable Development Goals, and said that they will intensify contacts and expand relations with the organization in the future.

Thanking for the meeting, Mrs. Maria Helena Andrena said that she was very happy to be in Baku, to see the beauty of the city and the development of our country.

She also spoke about the importance of the international conference on “Climate changes and fair transition: the role and activities of trade unions” held in Baku, and said that the experiences shared at the conference and the results to be achieved will have a positive impact on further activities.

 

The guest also noted the joint projects of AHIK and ILO on green jobs and fair transition. She emphasized that relations between both institutions will continue to develop with joint efforts.

At the meeting, opinions were also exchanged on other areas of mutual interest.
