Meeting of the Trilateral Commission on social and economic issues was held

An online meeting of the Trilateral Commission on social and economic issues was held, represented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of population, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan and the National Confederation of entrepreneurs organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

First deputy of ATUC Ilyas Aliyev, ATUC Secretary-Chief of Staff Hasan Jafarov, Deputy Minister of labour and social protection of population Anar Karimov, advisor to the minister Abulfat Maharramov, vice-presidents of ASK-Vugar Zeynalov, Zakir Nuriyev, Jala Hajiyeva and other commission members attended the meeting.

The agenda includes two issues – the work plan of the Trilateral Commission on social and Economic Affairs for 2024 and the prospects for the development of changes in labor legislation, which have been implemented and are being carried out recently with the technical support of the World Bank.

ATUC Secretary-Chief of Staff Hasan Jafarov informed about the work plan for 2024.  Fuad Heydarov, head of the Department of Labour policy of the Ministry of labour and Social Protection of population, made a presentation on changes to the labour legislation implemented and being implemented in the last period with the technical support of the World Bank. She spoke about the work done within the framework of cooperation with the World Bank, restrictions on women’s labor in legislation, international norms, work done to remove restrictions, as well as conventions intended to be canceled by the ILO and gender equality in labor relations. He said that the average salary of women in Azerbaijan in 2020 was 63.3% of the average salary of men, while in 2022 it was 67.1%. Also in the 2024 edition of the World Bank report on women, business and law, it was announced that Azerbaijan’s international rating has risen. Fuad Heydarov added that the expansion of employment opportunities for women, ensuring gender equality in a more organized form, achieving women’s work in higher paid areas, bringing national legislation in line with international labor standards are among the upcoming goals.

Discussions were held on the issues raised on the agenda, opinions and suggestions were voiced. The Work Plan of the Trilateral Commission for 2024 was also approved at the meeting.
