“One of the memorable pages of our history is the events of March-April 1918. Just at that time, more than 30 thousand Azerbaijanis were brutally killed by Armenian armed groups. This, of course, was an attempt to implement the idea of “Great Armenia” invented by Armenian nationalists, which never existed. This ugly policy has led to ethnic cleansing, deportations and genocides against our compatriots throughout history and has manifested itself at certain stages of history. At the time we mentioned, Armenian nationalists took such bloody events, knowing the situation as a historical opportunity. Due to ethnic and religious affiliation, tens of thousands of civilians were tortured and brutally murdered in Baku province alone. The genocide was committed not only in Baku, but also in Karabakh, Nakhchivan, Shamakhi, Guba, Khachmaz, Lankaran, Salyan and Zangezur. Also, 10 thousands of civilians were displaced from their lands.”
Chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC), MP Sattar Mohbaliyev said in his statement to mass media.
According to him, during the march events, as well as settlements, cultural monuments, mosques and cemeteries were destroyed: “that is, these actions are manifestations of the treacherous nature of the Armenian nationalists, which destroy everything that appears to their eyes and comes in front of them. The executioners, who did not take pity even on the elderly, women and children, resorted to even the most inhumane methods. This is once again evidenced by the GUBA massacre. So, there is no place for bullets in the skull and other human bones found there. Almost all of them were killed with axes, daggers, their heads were torn off their bodies. Nails were also found in some skulls. This once again reveals the cruelty with which those events were committed.”
“It is known that during the years of Soviet power they worked hard and did their best to erase the genocide and massacres committed by Armenian executioners from history and make people forget. Of course, all these attempts were useless. And after the collapse of the Empire, the curtains began to rise, and Justice found its place. It was in the decree “on the genocide of Azerbaijanis” signed by the founder of our state, great leader Heydar Aliyev in 1998 that the genocides committed against Azerbaijanis were officially mentioned for the first time, the roots of the policy of ethnic hostility demonstrated by Armenian chauvinists against our compatriots were revealed, such insidious, inhuman deeds received their political assessment. Also, by decree, March 31 was declared the day of genocide of Azerbaijanis. At the same time, this decree opened the way for new investigations into the genocide, significant work was done to study that history,” the chairman of the ATUC said.
“I would like to emphasize the establishment of the “Genocide Memorial Complex” in Guba by order of the head of our state Mr. Ilham Aliyev. This step is extremely important in terms of perpetuating the memory of the victims of the genocide, bringing the bloody events to the international community, and passing them on to future generations. We see that foreign guests, tourists, as well as our citizens, especially schoolchildren, visit the complex and collect complete information. We cannot forget this history, we must keep it alive and promote it. Every year on the eve of the Genocide Day of Azerbaijanis, events are organized in state bodies, public organizations, scientific and educational institutions. I would like to inform you that the trade unions of our country also hold events related to the Genocide Day, the memory of the victims of the genocide is commemorated with deep respect”, said the deputy of the Milli Majlis.
“Throughout history, the response of the enemy, who resorted to genocides, massacres, massacres of civilians, vandalism in our territories and occupation of our lands, has been adequately given. Both in the Patriotic War, which lasted only 44 days, in a number of local military operations carried out after it, and in the anti-terrorist events in Karabakh, which took place in less than a day, all our martyrs and victims of genocide were avenged on the battlefield. We can proudly say that today their souls are happy, because the Land of their homeland, where they sacrificed their lives, is completely free,” Sattar Mohbaliyev added.
