On December 12, the 10th Congress of  General Trade Unions Confederation was held in Moscow, the capital of  Russia.

The delegation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions led by the chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC), International Trade Unions Confederation, pan European Regional Council and vice-president of  GTUC, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev attended the event.

Speaking at the congress, Sattar Mohbaliyev highly appreciated the work, decisions made and projects implemented by GTUC in the direction of protecting the socio-economic and labor rights of workers, organizing seminars and meetings on various topics, analyzing the socio-economic situation.

He said that the institution regularly carries out important organizational work in the field of improving labor and social legislation, and constantly provides methodical assistance to member organizations.

Talking about the activities of ATUC, Sattar Mohbaliyev stressed that the Confederation works hard in the direction of protecting the social, economic and labor rights of workers, providing decent work, social equality, creating green workplaces, and preventing discrimination

“Some time ago, we voiced our proposals on amendments and additions to the Charter of the GTUC. These proposals provide for further democratization of management, increasing the role and responsibility of member organizations, making decisions only in elected bodies, taking into account the potential and experience of candidates during the formation of governing bodies and other necessary issues. I hope that in the future, the new additions to be adopted at the next meetings of the relevant bodies of the GTUC will have a positive effect on the expansion of our ranks and the strengthening of our solidarity. Despite the tense events currently prevailing in the world – pandemic, wars, trade unions fulfill their main duties properly. These events require trade unions to seriously evaluate the forms and methods of their activities. In such circumstances, we must mobilize our capabilities to find an adequate response to new global challenges,” said the chairman of the ATUC.

After the speeches and discussions, relevant decisions were made regarding the issues on the agenda. Also, the new leadership and composition of GTUC was formed at the Congress. Viktor Pinsky was elected the General Secretary of the GTUC. ATUC chairman Sattar Mohbaliyev became vice-president of the organization for the next time. Also, the Deputy Chairman of ATUC Agil Dadashov and Secretary of ATUC – Chief of Staff Hasan Jafarov were elected members of the Council. It should be noted that, ATUC has been a member of this organization since 2004.
