On November 25, the opening ceremony of the Republican Spartakiad of the XXXI National People’s Games was held at the Olympic Sports Complex in Sabirabad with the participation of village athletes and veterans of the Patriotic War.
The spartakiad held within the framework of the “Year of Heydar Aliyev” was jointly organized by the Association of Sports Organizations of Azerbaijan Trade Unions, “Mehsul” Sports Society and the Federation of Kand-Gida-İsh.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions, Hikmet Osmanov, spoke about the political activities of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, his rescue mission, state-building policy, as well as the attention and care he showed to the development of sports in our country, and wished success to the participants of the Spartakiad.
At the event, speeches were also heard by Siragaddin Jabbarov, the head of the Sabirabad District Executive Power, Tahmasib Aliyev, the deputy chairman of the Federation of Kand-Gida-İsh, Rasim Aliyev, the chairman of “Mahsul” Public Society, and Nadir Guliyev, the head of the Mil-Mugan Regional Youth and Sports Department.
15 teams competed in 7 types of sports (national wrestling, stone lifting, pole vaulting, chalaganchardagi, khyi-khyi, backgammon, strength test and tug-of-war) in Spartakia. Athletes who distinguished themselves in team competitions were awarded with diplomas and gifts.
After the event, 100 pine trees were planted around the Sabirabad regional center stadium on behalf of the trade unions of Azerbaijan. The purpose of the tree planting event is to commemorate the dear memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, to continue the National Leader’s traditions of caring for nature and greenery.
