AHIK held an event within the framework of “Human Rights Month”.

An event on “Human rights and Azerbaijan trade unions” was held by the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions (AHIK) as part of the “Human Rights Month”.

Department heads and other employees of ATUC, representatives of member organizations, Academy management and students took part in the event organized at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations.

Ali Jafarov, the deputy head of the Organizational Affairs and Information Department of the ATUC, who gave an introductory speech, conveyed the greetings of the Chairman of the Confederation, the MP of the Milli Majlis, Sattar  Mohbaliyev, and spoke about the relevance of the topic and the importance of the event.

Namig Huseynov, the head of the Analytical Research Department on cultural and household problems of the ATUC, spoke about the situation of human rights in our country. He said that in the conditions of democracy established in our country with all its manifestations, the rights and freedoms of our citizens are ensured at the highest level, special attention is paid to solving social problems of our people, securing their economic interests, and protecting all legal rights and interests in the field of labor.According to him, trade unions, as defenders of the labor rights of Azerbaijani citizens, conduct purposeful and efficient work using new methods and tools in the direction of adapting working conditions to modern standards, ensuring labor rights, labor protection, and creating decent working conditions in all enterprises operating in our republic.

Deputy Chief of Staff of ATUC Gara Agayev provided comprehensive development of young people, detection and evaluation of their talents, increasing their career opportunities in the modern era, creating conditions for acquiring relevant professions and specialties in the labor market, favorable working environment, etc. spoke about the issues.

He emphasized that trade unions should increase their efforts regarding young people, rejuvenate their ranks, try to create quality jobs for them in the labor market, pay attention to their education and training.

Güler Asgarova, Chairman of the Center for Gender Equality and Women’s Issues of ATUC, drew attention mainly to the equality of rights of women and men, from the history of the steps taken in this direction, from the accepted international normative and legal acts, from the work done in the world and in Azerbaijan related to the protection of women’s rights, their socio-political spoke about his effective activities in the field, including management, and looked at the gender policy of our state. He also spoke about the role of women in the development of trade unions and the strengthening of civil society.

Ruslan Bagirov, the deputy head of the Legal Department of the ATUC, spoke about the fundamental rights and fundamental freedoms of people, the international documents adopted for the protection of these rights, and the importance of trade unions’ activities in the aspect of protecting people’s socio-economic interests. He noted that in the relevant articles of the Civil and Political Rights, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and other international pacts, as well as the basic laws of individual countries, it is legally specified to unite in trade unions to ensure the social rights of workers.

Therefore, employers should be responsible for their obligations arising from contracts and agreements with trade unions.

Concluding the event, Ali Jafarov, the deputy director of the Organizational Affairs and Information Department of the ATUC, emphasized the importance of Azerbaijani trade unions in ensuring the labor rights and social interests of our citizens, as well as employees’ rest, restoration of work capacity, health protection, provision of the right to leave, and more effective leisure time. and spoke about the institution’s services in creating conditions for meaningful organization, regulation of labor relations and protection of social stability.

Summing up the event, Deputy Head of the Organization Affairs and Information Department of ATUC Ali Jafarov emphasized the importance of Azerbaijani trade unions in ensuring labor rights and social interests of our citizens. He also talked about the services of the institution in the relaxation of workers, restoration of working capacity, protection of health, provision of the right to leave, creation of conditions for more efficient and meaningful organization of leisure time, regulation of labor relations and protection of public stability.
