Statement of the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions regarding the strikes in France

487

As a member of the International Trade Union Confederation and the Pan-European Regional Council, the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation has friendly relations with the French General Confederation (CGT) for many years. Within the framework of the international trade union movement, there is a constant exchange of ideas between our organizations and the visit of delegations is organized. We have been closely following the recent strikes in France, and unfortunately, in France, which is considered the cradle of democracy, force is being used by the police against a large number of workers and union members who participated in the strike. First of all, this is a gross violation of the fundamental human rights of free assembly and freedom of opinion. As the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions, we express our solidarity with the French trade unions opposing the extension of the retirement age in France. Pension reform is a direct attack on the welfare of workers and their families. Such a reform is unacceptable in an era of increasing inequality and crisis of living, because it can lead to new socio-economic problems in the country and society.
