In connection with the 100th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev, 250 representatives from trade unions, non-governmental organizations, media organizations, elders and veterans’ organizations visited Nakhchivan.
The trip started with a visit to the monument of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Then the guests got acquainted with the Heydar Aliyev Museum. The museum provided extensive information about the rich life and activities of the Great Leader.
Within the framework of the visit, a conference on “Heydar Aliyev and civil society building” was held in the Heydar Aliyev Palace in Nakhchivan city in connection with the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”. The conference was attended by representatives of civil society institutions operating in our country, representatives of the public, and heads of relevant state institutions.
At the event, the memories of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, our martyrs and those who died as a result of the earthquake in brother Turkey were commemorated with a minute’s silence, and the National Anthem was played.
Speaking at the conference, the authorized representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Fuad Najafli, said that the greatest achievements of our centuries-old history are connected with the name of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. The unparalleled services of the National Leader to the people and state of Azerbaijan cover all stages of his activity. The work done by Heydar Aliyev both during the USSR period and during the period when he led our country served to increase the economic power of our republic and to achieve historical achievements of Azerbaijan. Pluralism of opinion, construction of civil society, social welfare, systematic legal reforms were the main priorities of the activity of the Great Leader.

He said that the first Constitution of the new and independent Azerbaijan, adopted in 1995 with his authorship and initiative, not only defined the development priorities of the country, but also brought the protection of human rights and freedoms to the fore as the highest goal of the state. With this, a normative-legal base was created that meets the highest requirements for the formation of civil society, the free and free life of people, and the provision of the rule of law, which are the basic principles of Heydar Aliyev’s ideas in independent Azerbaijan, which is advancing through legal, democratic and secular state-building. The adoption of the Constitution also created conditions for the creation and formation of public associations and non-governmental organizations.
Chairman of the Confederation of Azerbaijan Trade Unions, MP of the Milli Majlis, Sattar Mohbaliyev, said in his speech that modern democratic, legal and secular state-building in our country, the formation of civil society, and the return to national and moral values are directly related to the name of Heydar Aliyev: “The national leader identified the issue of the formation of a strong civil society as a priority, along with the strengthening of all important spheres of Azerbaijani statehood. One of the first steps he took for the formation of civil society was the guarantee of the activity of trade unions. In 1994, under the personal initiative and supervision of the Great Leader, the Law “On Trade Unions” was adopted in Azerbaijan for the first time in the former post-Soviet space. The law created a legal basis for regulating the activity of trade unions in society based on new principles and active participation in protecting the social and economic interests of our citizens. With this, the activities of the organization expanded, its previous prestige was returned to itself, the number of members began to increase, free and independent opportunities opened up for it as a non-governmental organization.
The chairman of ATUC emphasized that our respected President Ilham Aliyev, who continues the policy of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev with great success, pays special attention and care to the free activity of citizens, the free expression of their positions, and the formation of civil society.
According to him, the Azerbaijani trade unions, one of the institutions of civil society, see the solution of all problems within their powers in the social dialogue with the government: “AHIK works on the basis of the principles of cooperation and social partnership with all structures of the government. Every two years, the General Collective Agreement is signed between the government, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan and the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) Organizations. Trade union organizations refer to the General Collective Agreement to protect workers’ socio-economic rights, prevent mass unemployment, etc. able to overcome the obstacles encountered in the performance of tasks”.
S.Mohbaliyev noted that Azerbaijani trade unions actively participate in the public life of our country and support the successful policy of President Ilham Aliyev in the direction of strengthening the country’s economic development, improving the material well-being of the population, providing employment, and solving social problems in general.
At the event, Vahid Novruzov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Chamber of Auditors, Bahruz Mammadzade, a participant of the 44-day Patriotic War, Chairman of the Union of Special Forces Veterans, Asim Aliyev, Chairman of the Writers’ Union of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Aygun Aliyeva, Executive Director of the State Support Agency for Non-Governmental Organizations, Republic of Azerbaijan Deputy chairman of the Organization of War, Labor and Armed Forces Veterans, retired colonel Jalil Khalilov, chairman of the Society for the Protection of Women’s Rights named after Dilara Aliyeva, Novella Jafarova, and head of the Constitutional Research Foundation Alimammad Nuriyev made speeches. In the speeches, the National Leader Heydar Aliyev spoke in detail about the large-scale works carried out in the field of civil society building. It was emphasized that holding such a prestigious event in Nakhchivan, the birthplace of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, is of particular importance.
After the conference, the guests got acquainted with the Duzdag Physiotherapy Center. It was reported that citizens with bronchial asthma, nervous, liver and biliary tract, rheumatological and other diseases are admitted to the center and they undergo effective physiotherapeutic treatment procedures. The treatment process is carried out by completely natural methods.
Later, there was an acquaintance with the city of Nakhchivan, as well as the tomb of Momina Khatun.
