On October 6, the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) held a seminar on “The role of trade unions in the implementation of International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention No. 105 on the Abolition of Forced Labor” in Shirvan.
The event was attended by Leyla Acalova , head of the Legal Department of ATUC, Tural Suleymanov , specialist of the Organizational Affairs and Information Department , Adam Huseynov , head of the Humanitarian Department of Shirvan City Executive Authority , as well as local representatives of field trade unions in Shirvan city and surrounding regions.
First, the greetings of the Chairman of ATUC, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev were delivered to the participants of the event.
In her speech, L. Acalova talked about forced labor, which is a common international problem, the violated rights of people in this field, which are mostly observed in the private sector, as well as the legal aspects of the methods and means of combating forced labor.
He brought to the attention of the participants the role of trade unions in the fight against forced labor, the duties of the institution, and the importance of increasing the number of educational work. He emphasized that our state pays special attention to the implementation of Convention No. 105, national labor legislation in accordance with international standards has been formed and is being improved in our country. He also emphasized that all legal violations related to labor relations are under the constant control of the government, ATUC, as well as employers, and measures to fight in this direction are being strengthened.
Speaking at the seminar, T. Suleymanov spoke about measures against forced labor, their importance and consequences. He noted that together with social partners, work has been planned in the direction of informing the public about the risk of forced labor, providing illegal migrants with alternative local income opportunities and skills, educating workers about their rights and the implementation of laws. All this increases the possibilities of achieving the abolition of forced labor.
T.Suleymanov also talked about the protection of the rights of victims of forced labor, the absolute compensation of the damage caused to them, strengthening the work of labor inspection services in this field, as well as the elimination of the main reasons and factors that increase the risks of forced labor.
Adam Huseynov, head of department of Shirvan City Executive Authority, informed about the consequences of forced labor, its negative effects on the economy, the global crisis in this field, as well as the measures taken against such negative aspects in Shirvan.
At the end, the questions of the participants were answered and a broad exchange of ideas was held.
