“Azerbaijan’s activities in the Non-Aligned Movement, which based its foreign policy on international principles such as the protection of peace and security in the world and the development of mutually beneficial cooperation, based on its state interests, have an important role in strengthening its positions in the world and increasing its reputation. Our country, which has demonstrated its commitment to the basic principles of the organization since its establishment, has shown solidarity with the member states and supported fair initiatives of a global nature. Also, the movement has become an important platform for conveying the real truths of our country, which has been a victim of aggression for many years, to the world more objectively and fully. It is known that the Non-Aligned Movement is the second largest organization in the world after the UN and covers different regions of the world. No matter how much the world develops and political changes take place, the “Bandung principles”, which are the foundation of the organization’s activities, remain relevant. The main goal here is to ensure peace and security in the world, to respect the sovereign rights and territorial integrity of states, not to interfere in their internal affairs, etc. are issues. These factors are at the center of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy concept, that being represented in the organization directly coincides with the interests of our country.”
Sattar Mohbaliyev, chairman of Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation, deputy of the Milli Majlis, expressed these views in a press release.
According to him, since joining the ranks of this institution, Azerbaijan has made important contributions to the activities of the organization for the sake of peace and stability, security, and strengthening of international law: “This approach has always been appreciated by the member states, and the election of our country as the chairman of this institution by a unanimous decision is the respect it has gained in a short time and is a clear example of trust. Of course, everything is in sight that the Movement is currently experiencing a powerful period as a result of the effective and efficient chairmanship of Azerbaijan and has become a major voice in the world. The fair and actual initiatives put forward by our head of state, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, against the background of complex political processes taking place in the world, have not only turned the institution into an important international platform, but also led to the increase of our country’s reputation among the countries of the world. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Azerbaijan, as the chairman of the Movement, approached its work responsibly and professionally, promptly and adequately responded to the real situation, and the international initiatives it put forward in the direction of mobilizing global efforts were supported at a high level. “The extension of Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the institution for another year is due to the fact that it fulfills its duties with dignity, and this is another manifestation of the trust in our country.”
Currently, our country is hosting the conference of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network on “Strengthening the role of national parliaments in promoting world peace and sustainable development”. The participation of the parliamentary delegations of more than 40 countries of the world, representatives of 9 international parliamentary organizations, as well as the presence of parliament speakers of 15 countries in the delegation is an indicator of the prestige and importance of the conference. At a time when paradoxical and complex processes continue in the world, the theme of the conference, including increasing the mission of parliaments in this direction, will undoubtedly create an important basis for the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation on a global scale, the expansion of relations, and strengthen solidarity. The speech of our head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev at the conference was received with interest by the participants and we are sure that it will play the role of a stimulus in their further activities. In his speech, our Honorable President highly appreciated the efforts of the member states in Azerbaijan’s fight for justice. We have repeatedly witnessed the support of the Non-Aligned Movement countries to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan during the war and after it. Adopting a special statement during the Patriotic War, expressing solidarity with Azerbaijan in its efforts to restore territorial integrity, as well as preventing the attempts of some members of the UN Security Council to adopt a biased statement against Azerbaijan are signs of the institution’s fair and unified position,” said the member of the Milli Majlis.
The chairman of AHIK called the planned visit of the participants of the Baku conference to the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the city of Shusha, a significant event: “They will see everything here with their own eyes. They will witness the bitter consequences of the occupation that lasted for many years, the destruction and atrocities. They will also get to know the large-scale improvement and construction works carried out by Azerbaijan on its own, only with its own strength.”
