Relations between Azerbaijan and Lithuania are developing

“One of the important aspects of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy strategy is relations with European countries. In this regard, cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania is developing dynamically in many areas, including political, economic and trade, tourism, culture and education. By the way, I reminded that Lithuania was one of the first countries to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. A legal framework has been formed in bilateral relations, and a number of important documents have been signed. Both countries have consistently demonstrated their interest in developing relations, and activity in this area is significantly higher. Mutual visits at the level of heads of state further strengthen these ties. In this regard, I consider the official visit of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda to our country on May 18 important and I believe it will be an important contribution to our bilateral relations. The visit will also deepen our economic cooperation in all areas, especially. It is clear to everyone that there is a favorable business environment in Azerbaijan, which is, of course, beneficial for Lithuanian investors. It is extremely important for both countries to hold an Azerbaijani-Lithuanian business forum, hold discussions in this regard and sign a number of documents”.

The statement came from chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), MP Sattar Mohbaliyev.

Mohbaliyev drew attention to a number of points voiced by President Ilham Aliyev at the Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum:

Azerbaijan is becoming one of the leading countries in ensuring the energy security of the world, as well as Europe. Successful projects, including the implementation of the giant Southern Gas Corridor, allow us to say this. I would like to note that if in the past the oil and gas sector in our country was more attractive for investment, as a result of successful reforms, today the non-oil sector is also in the interest of foreign companies. According to the President, the diversification of the Azerbaijani economy is a key priority. Of course, this is very important for the overall development and sustainability of the country’s economy. The 7.2 percent growth in the country’s economy over the past four months, especially in the non-oil sector, which is 11.4 percent, as well as the increase in export potential, a significant decline in unemployment, once again confirms the growing pace of Azerbaijan’s economic power. All these points are the useful results of effective reforms implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

During the statements to the press, the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Lithuania reiterated the position of Azerbaijan: peace, cooperation and interaction in the South Caucasus. This shows that our country is committed to lasting peace, stability, security and cooperation in the region. Of course, the new realities brought by Azerbaijan to the region are based on this. Therefore, unlike Armenia, which has paralyzed the region with its occupation policy for almost 30 years and hindered its development, Azerbaijan’s position aims at the comprehensive development of the entire region through mutual cooperation in peace and security, he said.
