“One of the bright pages of the heroic chronicle of the invincible and powerful Azerbaijani Army is the liberation of Zangilan region from occupation. As a result of the operation carried out under the command of our Border Troops, the region was cleared of invaders in a short time. In general, as a result of the Zangilan battles, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces liberated the city of Zangilan, 4 settlements and 49 villages from occupation. The unparalleled bravery shown by our Army in these battles led to the shaking of the enemy’s occupying forces, discouragement, and an increase in desertion. Also, our Armed Forces gained a psychological advantage over the enemy and continued the process of liberating other regions from occupation with greater success and high spirits.
The statement came from chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), MP Sattar Mohbaliyev.
According to him, during the occupation, like other territories of East Zangazur and Karabakh, Zangilan was subjected to enemy barbarism, almost all buildings, including historical and religious architectural monuments were destroyed: “They tried to Armenianize the national and moral values of our people. When they saw that this was not possible, they disbanded and insulted them. But today, along with other regions liberated from occupation, a comprehensive reconstruction is being carried out in Zangilan. The work done here is in the spotlight of the head of state Mr. Ilham Aliyev. President and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited Zangilan several times and got acquainted with the creative work on the spot. This shows that all the existing potential for a” Great Return ” has been mobilized. 1st, 2nd and 3rd villages of Aghali are reconstructed within the framework of the pilot project “Smart” Village. A modern school, a kindergarten and a polyclinic are being built in these villages. Agali village will go down in history as the first village in the Caucasus to meet modern standards. The “smart education”, “smart health” and “smart agriculture” systems will also be implemented here. I would like to emphasize the construction of the Horadiz-Zangilan-Agband railway. This project is of great strategic importance. Most importantly, the railway is very important for the arrival of citizens to the liberated lands, as well as for the transportation of goods. The construction of the airport, along with the region, will lead to the transformation of the region into an international transport and logistics center.

The Foundation is directly involved in the restoration of our historical and religious architectural monuments. The Foundation itself is engaged in one of the most important projects implemented in Zangilan – the restoration of the Zangilan mosque. This embodies the high appreciation of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and its leader Mehriban Aliyeva for our national and moral values, “the MP said.
In his speech on the appointment of a special envoy to Zangilan district, President Ilham Aliyev noted that Zangilan is the first district where former IDPs will return in the near future. We believe that the socio-economic conditions created here will be favorable for the residents to live comfortably. The geographical position and natural resources of the region will add strength to the development of business and employment here. The agricultural potential of the region is also high. This will create significant opportunities for economic development and employment in the region and give impetus to the revival of the region as a whole, “Mohbaliyev said.
