As of January 1, 2022, there are 15,039 trade union organizations in 27 organizations that are members of the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC), including 62 joint and 501 city-district committees.

Although the ongoing processes related to the COVID-19 pandemic have inevitably created difficulties and negatively affected the activities of trade unions, there have been positive changes in a number of areas. Thus, the number of students involved in trade unions in 2021 increased by 5.1% compared to 2020, which led to an increase in the total number of trade union members by 0.9%.

The number of organizations with up to 15 members increased by 0.4%. The number of trade union members in small and medium enterprises, foreign and joint ventures in the country increased by 2.6% last year.

In 2021, 56 new first trade unions were established in 7 areas of the private sector. The number of trade union members there was 3,304. This means that the number of newly established organizations will increase by 4 times compared to 2020, and the number of members will increase by 7 times.

Last year, 13,808 people joined the 107 newly formed trade unions by member organizations, as a result of which the number of members increased 2.5 times compared to 2020.

The number of women union members increased by 1.6% to 52.3% of the total number of members. The number of young people increased by 0.5%.

Last year, 123 agreements and 11,806 collective agreements were signed with employers. The number of trade unions concluding contracts increased by 0.7% compared to the previous year, and the number of members covered by contracts increased by 4.1%.

According to the results of statistical reports compiled by sectoral trade unions for 2021, it should be noted that positive steps were taken in the direction of implementation of recommendations of ATUC on strengthening the motivation of trade union membership, establishment of new organizations, especially in private sector, enlightenment, adaptation to modern requirements, protection of workers ‘ rights, increasing attention to their appeals.
