“Azerbaijan actively participates in the work of international and regional organizations it represents and makes important contributions. The countries of the world also pay special attention to cooperation with Azerbaijan as a reliable partner. Today, the role of our country in ensuring the world’s energy security is growing, and huge projects are being implemented in this direction. One of the regional entities in which Azerbaijan is actively represented is the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO). Our country is interested in the effective functioning of the organization. In 2006 and 2012, ECO Summits were held in Baku. At these events, important decisions were made defining the basic principles of socio-economic and political relations between the member states, the prospects of regional relations. Azerbaijan also actively cooperates with member states in trade, investment, transport, energy and the environment.
This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev.
The ATUC chairman said that the 15th ECO Summit held in Ashgabat on November 28 was memorable with a number of moments: “Speaking at the event, President Ilham Aliyev spoke about the beneficial cooperation with member states, as well as the economic potential of our country. As a result of purposeful, effective reforms, sustainable economic development has been achieved in Azerbaijan. This is confirmed by the ratings of influential international organizations. According to the World Bank’s Doing Business report released last year, Azerbaijan ranks 28th out of 190 countries, which is quite high. The World Bank also included Azerbaijan in the list of 10 most reformist countries. At the same time, in the reports of the Davos Economic Forum, our country is in a leading position in a number of areas. According to the Heritic Foundation’s Economic Freedom Index for 2020, Azerbaijan ranks 38th. Having such a sustainable economy in a pandemic that has engulfed the world and caused serious economic consequences shows the economic strength of our country”.
