The ATUC hosted an event on “Azerbaijan’s development path over the past 18 years”

An online event on “Azerbaijan’s development path, work done and achievements over the past 18 years” was held at the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation on December 22.

The event was attended by the leadership and staff of the ATUC, as well as chairmen and members of member organizations.

ATUC Chairman, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev spoke about the successful democratic political activity of President Ilham Aliyev, the history of dynamic and sustainable development of Azerbaijan over the past 18 years, reforms in the socio-economic sphere.

He said that President Ilham Aliyev is one of the rare leaders in the history of the world who comprehensively fulfills all the promises and commitments made to the people. During these 18 years, Azerbaijan has achieved rapid development in all directions, full stability and peace has been established in the country, the social situation of the population has improved, the country’s political and economic opportunities have expanded and international prestige has increased.

Sattar Mohbaliyev stressed that on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, large-scale projects related to the development of transport infrastructure in Azerbaijan have been implemented and large public investments have been made in this area. Highways in the direction of Georgia, Russia and Iran have been reconstructed, airports, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Baku International Sea Trade Port have been built in the capital and elsewhere. The work done in this direction has further strengthened the transit opportunities of our country.

Sattar Mohbaliyev said that as a result of effective economic reforms implemented under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan’s gross domestic product has increased over the past 18 years, and a favorable investment climate has been created. $ 280 billion has been invested in the country’s economy. Over the past 18 years, the poverty rate in Azerbaijan has fallen from 49 percent to 6 percent, while unemployment is around 6 percent. The implementation of state programs on socio-economic development of the regions approved by President Ilham Aliyev is of great importance in the development of the regions. Over the past 17 years, more than 3,300 schools, hundreds of kindergartens and medical facilities have been built or renovated under these programs. The regions also played a major role in the 3.5 percent increase in GDP in the non-oil sector and 14.3 percent in the non-oil industry. In 2019, 7.2 billion manat will be allocated for the socio-economic development of the regions under the Fourth State Program.
