‘’One of the important pages of the ancient history of the Azerbaijani people, based on millennia, is the tireless struggle against slavery and occupation. Historical facts prove that the people of Azerbaijan, who created great states and huge empires, faced hardships and occupation at certain stages of history, but continued the struggle for freedom until its goal was achieved. He overcame all the pressures and obstacles on this path with honor.Every step taken by our people for freedom is our heroic chronicle, and every member of our people proudly reads these pages of history’’.
This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, MP Sattar Mohbaliyev.
According to him, the struggle of our people against the Soviet empire is also our glorious path to freedom, written in golden letters in history and a valuable example for future generations:
“On this path, our people have gone through many hardships, repressions and pressures, but for a moment they did not give up their noble cause, and continued their struggle with dignity. On the night of January 19-20, 1990, a bloody massacre of the Azerbaijani people took place in the capital Baku, protesting against the unjust policy of the empire. Armed intervention also took place in the regions. A total of 147 people were killed, 744 were injured, 841 were illegally arrested, 200 houses and apartments, 80 cars, including ambulances, state and private property were destroyed. The events that took place once again showed the inside of the totalitarian regime, which has always taken up arms against democracy. This was one of the gravest crimes against humanity. The empire intended to disrupt the unity of the Azerbaijani people, stifle the struggle for freedom, kill the national spirit, and block the path to independence. But our people were not afraid of what happened, they showed their readiness to make all kinds of sacrifices to protect their national identity and dignity. In addition to being a national tragedy, January 20 has taken its place in our history as the peak of the national liberation movement of our people for independence, sovereignty and liberty. It was the most glorious struggle against slavery in the history of the world. ”
“Our martyrs were laid to rest on the highest peak of the capital Baku. The attendance of hundreds of thousands of people at the funeral after the bloody event demonstrated that our people are not afraid of anything for the freedom of the Motherland, their tenacity, their sacred attitude to our martyrs. “The subsequent militant behavior of our people has already shown the empire that it will not be able to stand up to the struggle for independence of Azerbaijan, it is an irresistible struggle,” said the ATUC chairman.
S.Mohbaliyev stressed that, in general, the January 20 incident was a turning point in the formation of our national identity, the restoration of state independence: “The national liberation movement has become a political reality, has become irreversible. After that, the people saw their future in independent Azerbaijan, in having sovereign rights, in living freely and freely.Despite all the difficulties, he finally achieved his highest goal – independence. The martyrs of January 20 shed an inextinguishable light on our path to freedom with their blood, created a school of struggle, and left an example of solidarity for future generations. They showed that the unshakable unity of our people is at the root of all our successes. Continuing the fighting spirit, our people liberated East Zangazur and Karabakh, which have been under Armenian occupation for almost 30 years, thanks to the unparalleled leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, Mr. IlhamAliyev, and the heroism of our invincible Army. It has once again demonstrated to the whole world that it is a victorious nation. “
