The Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation (ATUC) held a webinar on “Analysis of the ATUC’s experience in the process of framework agreements in cooperation with the UN, MFA / 2030 Agenda and the Voluntary National Report”.
ATUC leaders and officials, as well as representatives of member organizations attended the event.
In his introductory speech, ATUC Chief of Staff Hasan Jafarov spoke about the urgency of the issue, the importance and results of the analysis, the work done to ensure sustainable development in our country and the successes achieved in this area, the role of trade unions in this direction.
Speaking at the event, Namig Huseynov, Head of the ATUC’s Analytical Research Department on Workers’ Cultural and Social Problems, spoke about the results of the analysis, new economic processes in the world, technical progress, and the impact of modern technologies on the economy, environmental consequences, global unemployment and the global pandemic. He spoke about the negative impact on the economy and the possibility of joint struggle against it.
Speaking about the Sustainable Development Goals, Huseynov said that this issue is one of the most important components of Azerbaijan’s state policy and comprehensive measures are being taken in this direction in our country. He also spoke about the role of trade unions in this area, cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), the work done and joint projects. He said that for its achievements in the fight against poverty, Azerbaijan was awarded a special prize by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and for its achievements in the field of employment and the labor market was selected a country in the ILO’s focus in the regions. In addition, Azerbaijan ranks 54th out of 166 countries in the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2020 Index of Sustainable Development Goals with a score of 72.6 out of a possible 100.
Speaking on the subject, ILO National Coordinator for Azerbaijan Yashar Hamzayev spoke about the existing relations and prospects between the organization he represents and the Azerbaijani trade unions.
Then the speakers – representatives of the ILO – Gocha Alexandria, Dorino Suruceano spoke about the role of trade unions and social institutions in sustainable development, socio-economic aspects of sustainable development and reforms.
