“National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who returned to the country’s leadership on June 15, 1993 at the insistence of the Azerbaijani people, was elected President by a large majority on October 3. Thus, the renaissance began in all spheres of life, the foundation of our bright future was laid. The founder of our bright life today is the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. Thanks to his great courage, courageous steps, political will, hard work, sleepless nights, Azerbaijan has risen to a new position among the world powers. When getting acquainted with the political activity of the Great Leader, it is clear that he is the creator and founder of all our successes. Thanks to his services, illegal armed groups were neutralized in the country, socio-political stability was established, coups were prevented, and comprehensive measures were taken to build an army.
He created an independent Azerbaijani state. Thanks to the successful policy of Heydar Aliyev, a small country has become an influential state recognized in the world, leading states and international organizations began to pay serious attention to Azerbaijan, our country has become a sovereign factor in the system of international relations.
This opinion was expressed by the chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation (ATUC), MP Sattar Mohbaliyev.
According to him, the services of the Great Leader in the development of trade unions, as in all areas, are undeniable: “During the leadership of Soviet Azerbaijan in 1969-1982, Heydar Aliyev always supported the trade unions, did not spare them wise advice. Heydar Aliyev, who attached great value to the people, workers and laborers, and considered it his highest duty to serve them, always paid attention to the activities of trade unions. It was during the Great Leader’s leadership of the republic that the trade unions returned to the basic principles with which they had distanced themselves. The main focus was on measures to improve the living conditions of workers, increase and protect their rights, organize recreation and protect their health. The number of recreation centers and sanatoriums has been increased, and new children’s camps have been established. He took part in three congresses of trade unions during the leadership of Soviet Azerbaijan and gave a speech, praised the activities of trade unions and spoke about the services of trade unions in the development of society. The crisis that engulfed all sectors in the early 1990s also had a negative impact on trade unions. The suspension of production facilities, factories, rising unemployment, as well as tensions in the socio-political life of the country have reduced the scale and quality of the activities of trade unions, the largest and most popular organization, and weakened the social base. The indifference of the country’s leadership to this institution aggravated the situation. After the Great Leader came to power in 1993, the trade unions began to emerge from the crisis, and radical changes took place. He always took care of the trade unions, supported the protection of the rights and interests of workers and the improvement of their social status. Only a year after his election as president, in 1994, for the first time in the post-Soviet space, the Law on Trade Unions was adopted in Azerbaijan under his initiative and control. Thus, a legal basis has been created for the regulation of the organization’s activities in society on the basis of new principles and for its active participation in the protection of the socio-economic interests of our citizens. This is a sign of Heydar Aliyev’s value to a democratically developing civil society. Thus, the organization’s activities expanded, its previous reputation was restored, the number of members began to increase, and free and independent opportunities opened up as a public organization. “Today, trade unions as a public organization adequately respond to all the challenges of the state, including social proposals,” he said.
