“July 20-21 is the blessed Eid Holiday in our country. This holiday is celebrated by Muslims all over the world and is considered one of the holiest holidays in Islam. Islam, which calls for peace, justice and equality, embodies compassion, solidarity and kindness among people through its holidays. As a part of the Islamic world, our people, which has an ancient history and culture, celebrates this holiday every year in accordance with religious rules with great love for God, sacrifices are made, help is given to needy families, and good deeds are promoted.
This opinion was expressed by MP, Chairman of the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Confederation Sattar Mohbaliyev.
According to him, this religious holiday was preserved by our people despite the most difficult and severe political pressures, complicated historical conditions: “After gaining independence, this holiday, highly valued by our state, began to be officially celebrated. The state creates all conditions for the Muslim population to celebrate the holiday with dignity. Almost all wealthy people and public organizations provide assistance to people in need, vulnerable groups, orphanages and nursing homes. By the way, I would like to emphasize the services of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and its head Mehriban Aliyeva in this charity work. Every year on Eid Holiday, as well as on other significant days, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation distributes gifts to low-income and other vulnerable families.
“Azerbaijan is the only country where free and equal opportunities have been created for the representatives of all religions. Religious pluralism and tolerance have been established in all its aspects. Religious rites, whether Christian, Jewish, or Islamic, are performed comfortably and holidays are celebrated. On these important days, representatives of religious denominations demonstrate the unity and brotherhood of the united Azerbaijani people and congratulate each other. This is a sign of the spiritual unity of our common rights, “he added.
“National leader Heydar Aliyev has always been with the people during religious holidays, officially congratulated them and took part in prestigious religious events. During his presidency, dozens of mosques were built and restored at the initiative of the great leader. Representatives of other religions have always been under the care of the state. This tradition is successfully continued today by President Ilham Aliyev. Under the leadership of the President, Azerbaijan makes exemplary contributions to the development of Islamic culture and the promotion of Islamic values in the world. The announcement of 2017 as the “Year of Islamic Solidarity” in our country is a clear proof of this. “Besides, the announcement of Baku as the capital of Islamic culture in 2009 and Nakhchivan in 2018 shows the great value that Azerbaijan attaches to the Islamic religion and culture,” he said.
“Every year on Eid Holiday, our people ask God to liberate our lands from occupation. In order to achieve these desires, they intended sacrifices in the way of God. Our people, who are always ready to fight for the homeland and to die on this path, united this fist around the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and realized this dream by liberating our occupied lands. The victory is an indication of the acceptance of the sacrifices and prayers of our people. By the order of Mr. President, the restoration of religious monuments destroyed by Armenia was first started in the liberated lands. “This shows once again that Azerbaijan is a tolerant country and how much attention it pays to this issue,” Mohbaliyev said.
